Apnealytics vs myAir: when a single score is not enough

myAir is ResMed's free companion app. Every morning it shows one number from 0 to 100, built from usage, mask seal, events per hour and mask on/off. It needs no card reader and no setup. Apnealytics reads the SD card inside the same ResMed machine and shows everything myAir summarises away: per-night waveforms, pressure and leak percentiles, event composition, 30-night trends, oximetry overlays and a report you can hand to your doctor. The honest comparison of Apnealytics vs myAir is that myAir is the simplest possible view and Apnealytics is the detailed one. Most ResMed users should keep myAir installed. The question is whether you also want what it leaves out.

Apnealytics vs myAir: two product cards with price, machines, phone app and key features
01

What myAir is

myAir is free for owners of ResMed AirSense 10, AirSense 11 and compatible AirCurve machines, and for the AirMini over Bluetooth. The machine sends a nightly summary over its built-in modem to ResMed's servers, and the app shows it. There is nothing to upload. It is ResMed only, it gives one 0–100 score with a short breakdown, and the detail is limited by design.

02

What Apnealytics is

Apnealytics is a cloud platform from Creative Labs LLC that reads the SD card in your ResMed machine (AirSense 10/11, AirCurve 10/11, S9 / Lumis). You upload the card on the web portal and the full dataset is parsed: every night, every event, the pressure and leak curves, and on Pro the breath-level airflow trace. It has a free tier that never expires and a Pro tier at $8.99/month or $99.99/year. iOS and Android apps are live (App Store and Google Play) and sync Apple Health or Health Connect.

Where myAir is ahead

Zero effort. No card reader, no upload. The score appears each morning. For many people this is the whole point and nothing else competes with it.

AirMini. The AirMini has no SD card, so no third-party tool can read it. myAir is the only data source for AirMini owners.

It is made by ResMed. The score components map to ResMed's own thresholds, and if your clinician uses AirView they are already looking at data from the same pipe.

Cost. Free, with no tier to think about.

Where Apnealytics is ahead

Detail. myAir gives you a mask-seal face and an events-per-hour number. Apnealytics gives you leak P95 in L/min, pressure P95 against your set range, EPR, respiratory rate, and event composition split into obstructive, central, hypopnea and unclassified. On Pro you can open the night and see the airflow trace around each event.

History and trend. myAir shows recent nights. Apnealytics Free keeps the last 30 nights; Pro keeps everything, with a 30-night rolling AHI trend, period-over-period comparison, Explore drill-down from yearly to monthly to nightly, and "What changed?" markers when a setting or a trend shifts.

Alerts that explain themselves. "Heads up: AHI 8.5, 2.9× your usual ~3.0" tells you something a score of 82 does not.

Mask Analytics. Seal, AHI and usage per mask, so when you try a new cushion you can see what it did.

Health beside therapy. Apple Health and Health Connect sync is free. Resting heart rate, HRV, SpO₂, sleep hours and weight sit next to your therapy numbers.

Oximetry. Pro overlays SpO₂ and pulse from a Wellue O2Ring, Contec CMS50 or any EDF/CSV oximeter, with ODI₃, ODI₄ and T90. myAir has no oximetry.

Doctor-ready output. Pro produces a PDF with compliance and clinical sections, and the compliance autopilot finds the qualifying 30-day window and drafts the letter. Share links are read-only and revocable.

Ask your data. Free with your own OpenAI or Anthropic key. "How many nights last month were under 4 hours?" gets an answer from your records.

Family. Multiple logins on one account, free.

Who should pick which

Stick with myAir alone if:

  • You use an AirMini.

  • Your therapy is stable, your clinician is happy, and the morning score is all you want.

  • You have no interest in taking a card out of the machine.

Add Apnealytics if:

  • Your AHI has drifted and you want to know why.
  • You are changing masks or pressure settings and want to see the effect.
  • Your insurer or DME wants a compliance report and you would rather not assemble it by hand.
  • You own an oximeter or an Apple Watch and want that data beside therapy.
  • You like to understand what the machine is doing, not just be told it went well.

Use both: almost everyone who uses Apnealytics keeps myAir. They do not conflict. myAir reads the modem; Apnealytics reads the card. Nothing you do with the card affects the modem upload.

A practical note on the card

Taking the SD card out of an AirSense is routine and safe when the machine is off and not in use. The machine keeps recording summary data to its internal memory; the card holds the high-resolution detail. Put the card back after uploading and the machine continues as before. Our guide on reading your CPAP SD card walks through it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is Apnealytics better than myAir?

Apnealytics shows far more detail than myAir: waveforms, pressure and leak percentiles, event types, long-term trends, oximetry and a doctor-ready report. myAir is simpler, needs no card reader, and is the only option for the AirMini. They do different jobs, and most Apnealytics users keep myAir installed.

Why is my myAir score high but my AHI still feels wrong?

The myAir score is weighted heavily toward usage hours, with smaller contributions from seal, events and mask on/off. You can score well with a solid seven hours even when events per hour have crept up. Apnealytics shows AHI, leak and event composition separately, so a drift shows up as a trend rather than hiding inside a composite score.

Can Apnealytics read AirMini data like myAir does?

No. The AirMini has no SD card, so there is nothing for Apnealytics, OSCAR or SleepHQ to read. myAir receives AirMini data over Bluetooth and is the only app that shows it. If you travel with an AirMini and sleep at home on an AirSense, Apnealytics tracks the home nights.

Does using Apnealytics stop myAir from working?

No. myAir reads data the machine sends over its modem. Apnealytics reads the SD card. Removing the card to upload it does not interrupt the modem upload, and putting it back lets the machine continue writing detail data. Both keep working side by side.

Is Apnealytics free like myAir?

There is a free tier that never expires: unlimited imports, nightly dashboard, last 30 nights of history, Apple Health / Health Connect sync, Ask your data, family logins and data export. Pro, at $8.99/month or $99.99/year, adds full history, per-night waveforms, oximetry overlays, the PDF report, share links, multiple machines and the API.
